I have nearly an identical one to this. Mine also is missing the face. I received from the bank, and it's just been stored since then. I also am fairly clueless as to coin collecting, this one just caught my eye. Being that it was different than the other ones I have.

It is certainly strange looking. Good eye to spot it.

To CCF! Could be a Grease Filled Die issue. Can you post a picture of the obverse?

Would be interesting to examine the coin in-hand.

Weird looking but I guess it is a greased die. The picture is a little blurry, it seems too new to be worn down.

Is the rim by her face flat too or is that just the lighting in the picture causing it to look like that? Because if the rim is flat and her face is flat could be a clue to what actually happened.

Also what appears to be scratching or scuffing on the flight suit.

@LDW80 perhaps Struck Through Grease? A little too much glare from picture.

Right. Would need a picture of the obverse and the question about the flat reverse rim to be answered to properly evaluate the coin. Without those pieces to the puzzle known first any other reasons are just speculations.

Edited for spelling.
