I found this penny and it's SUPER shiny like it has a film on it? I also can't see the normal scratches you'd see from use. There are a couple deep scratches but it looks.... Flat. It's hard to explain.

@mbr, first welcome to CCF. Second, for sure this cent has lightly circulated, so you wouldn't expect there to be a ton of wear already. It is a little hard to tell from this one picture, but perhaps there is a think film of oil on the surface. That could explain both the shine and a hiding of minor scratches by filling them in. You could soak this coin in pure acetone to strip that away (and potentially remove the fingerprints), but I think either way you've got a coin worth face value.

Yep, a lightly circulated cent, with a fingerprint on it.

A long soak in 100% acetone might (might...) reduce the film-like look.

Thank you for the replies. I don't think it's oil. I wish I could get it on photo. It's as if it's laminated? But with something very thin... I don't know maybe y'all are right and it's nothing. I've just never seen it before. I was thinking maybe it was a weird science experiment I've not heard of. & 🤷 #127995;#8205;#9792;#65039; thanks anyway!

To CCF! Just see a normal, lightly circulated cent with toning and a fingerprint.

Mbright22, First thing to do is an 100% pure acetone dip and see what if anything changes. The fingerprint will not come off but maybe it will look a bit better. It is a spender though. John1

I don't know how to post a reply to people. Its too thin for a lacquer but it is similar to that! That was my first thought.
