Hello everyone,

Found this 1897-O this afternoon... Less common date for me in Rome....thoughts would be appreciated...

(I know this is a 'hard pass' for some but I am only looking for conversation specifically about the condition of this coin).

Thank you everyone ...

I'll say EF-45, perhaps AU-50 tops.

I'll stay at EF40 because of the big ding on her throat and the "after" pictures seem to be hiding other imperfections compared to the "before" picture.

Even though you didn't ask, looks like a VAM-5.

Looked better as original before you dipped it.

The Reverse looks like a solid XF to me, but the Obverse looks closer to VF/XF. The rim bump and damage are my tiebreaker, so I'd have this as a VF35.

Thanks everyone. As always, I appreciate it a lot.

That gunk wasn't coming off; so I had to dip. Typically I will try a few less invasive methods but this one wasn't budging.

I too liked the original better than the post dipped. What did you dip it in?

EF40-45. The dings on the cheek, neck and open field on the obverse are too strong. Smooth cotton balls don't help. Most New Orleans Morgans have weak hair above the ear. The hair on above the forehead looks good.

Assuming the first photo is the "after" shot - I think it is a definite improvement.
