I'm usually not big on dimes, but this one really grabbed me. Has some wear and an older cleaning (I think) that's retoning. The reverse die break is a beauty (106a ?). VF35/EF40, maybe? Very reputable dealer. Thinking of making an offer. Thoughts?

High VF but a spectacularly shattered reverse die. Great pick up of a very interesting coin!

Haven't bought it yet, but thinking of making an offer. Neat coin, but not thrilled about overall condition. Appears to be a very LDS.

With the Cud indicating a piece of the die had dislodged, it looks like a more advanced die pair state than F-106a. Maybe you can submit this coin to Gerry Fortin if you acquire it and create a new F-106b variety with the large Cud. Looks like you could extend this die state progression in the reference using this coin as an example.

But you have to be happy with the coin first, as you said.

Love the die cracks! If you look at PCGS photograde, there are too many inconsistencies in details from one grade to another. Despite the weakness of the top of the shield, I think this could grade XF-40 Certainly not less than VF-30. PCGS has this as a $300 plus coin.

I'm guessing that the old cleaning is not bothering any of you. I'm OK with it but was wondering. I'm sticking with VF35/EF40 after looking at other slabbed examples. I think this would slab straight. Just submitted an offer - will report.

Can't offer an opinion on grade, but agree 100% with @ns.

I tracked down several other 106-a examples and none of them were even close to this late a die state. I was hoping to get the dealer down a bit more, but he was pretty solid after his first counter offer. Just too neat a variety to pass up.
