Hi!
I am new to the community. I joined because I recently inherited a bunch of old coins. There was one coin in particular that stood out to me.
It's a 1964 50c coin
I've done some of research on it and I know that many people believe they have found one of these super rare coins only to be disappointed. However, the reason I believe it's actually possible, is because my family had ties to the government and DC during this time.
The details include: a strong matte finish, bold squared edges, a break in the 11-13 stars, a straight G, and slight polishing marks (not as visible on photos).
The only characteristic that my coin does NOT have is the mark on the 4. However, there are SMS '64 coins out there that didn't have this marking.
I'd like to hear everyone's professional opinion on this and see if you believe I should further investigate this coin and/or have it authenticated. Looking for any and all advice! Thank you!

Sorry but no. They are all accounted for. You have about a .00000000001% chance of finding any 1964 SMS coin in the wild.

I'm no professional but this appears to be a regular circulated Kennedy half, saved like everybody did back then because it's silver. The eagle's head is flat and there's no detail in the upper wing tips. I have trouble imagining that any of these circulated since they presumably went from Director Adams' estate straight to New York coin dealer Lester Merkin.

Agree--it's a business strike Kennedy half, with circulation wear and some soiling. Coin may have been somewhat cleaned long ago--crud buildup remaining in the 'corners/edges' of coin design details..

To CCF! Looks like a normal, circulated Business strike.
