So if not a mint error how so many?

It's just damage, stuck in some kind of machinery. I know it's damage because I understand the minting process and know it can't happen at the mint.

Hello Bobby and I understand what you are saying but I know that everybody says they are pmds and I understand people do stuff like that my problem with this coin is that since the post I have discovered a total of 25 coins that are identical to the coin in picture and they are in different states with people that do not know each other so you are trying to convince myself and others that 25+ coins all over the US where all altered exactly the same way I find that little hard to believe

AAdcock72, If you do not believe us you can send it to PCGS for their opinion. John1

Quote: I find that little hard to believe I'll tell you what. Send it to PCGS. If it comes back in an error slab, I'll reimburse you double what you paid. If it doesn't you buy a 1 year supporter status for CCF.

This nickel (what's left of it) is damaged, the coin was held by the center and the outer section was ground or sanded off from both sides. If you want I can go home and make one for you.

To CCF! I'm sorry, but this is just a heavily damaged coin. It's been sanded down. It's PMD. We see tons of these sanded down coins on here. Study the minting process, and you'll understand that this can't happen during the minting process. Once you understand the minting process, you'll understand that it's just damage. https://www.usmint.gov/learn/produc...n-production

Instead of spending time looking for more like it, spend the time studying up on the minting process, then come back and explain how it could have happened.

I agree with bobby131313.
AAdcock72... If you feel you have a legit rarity, consider submitting it to a reputable 3rd party grading/assessment service. If you do, please let us know the result. Thanks.

I don't know why you all are being so nasty I just stated what I know and that there are atleast 25 of the same coins out there and it is just hard to believe that as spread out as they are that and that they all or messes up the exact same is strange land come on there is so many new errors found everyday maybe it was missed but instead of maybe explaining why it's impossible it's easy to be rude

to the CCF As stated above, if you learn the minting process you will know that this coin is not posable to be a error from the mint. As far as 25 coins being the same "error" they are easy to make. All you need is a belt sander. The center of the reverse is where they pivoted the coin and spun it around to sand the rest of the coin off. They sanded the outside of the obverse. I can make any amount that you want. As far as being nasty. This is one of the top three supposed errors we see here. All of us here know what it is. Every person that asks the question comes back with something like, oh no this has to be a very good error because I want it to be. That's just not the case.

I see no one here is being nasty. Quote: there is so many new errors found everyday No, there's not. Every type of error is documented. This is not one of them.

Quote: you are trying to convince myself and others that 25+ coins all over the US where all altered exactly the same way I find that little hard to believe AAdcock72, I have several of those. Here's one I found in a CoinStar earlier this week. It's just PMD - NOT a mint error.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
