Am thinking of bidding higher on this. What do you all think? Cleaned or anything else negative? 386815882888Edited by johnjkedel 03/07/2024 11:02 pm

Definitely not MS, mid-high AU. I do not think the color is original to the coin (questionable color.) It looks original in most other respects. Seller has high positive feedback with good comments but there are some issues with the description and the listing. Nothing too scary, though, that would keep me from buying the coin. Seller: This is a scarce specimen of the 1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. MS+ in grade. Spike Chin. No problems. 100% original. Note: It's not MS and not 100% original in my opinion. YMMV. Seller: I will give a 14 day return privilege from the day that you sign for it Problem: Seller's listing states 30 days for returns. Why the difference? Seller: Insurance included in shipping costs. Absolutely nothing goes out of here without insurance. Therefore, I cannot offer free shipping. Note: This is a backhanded way of skirting ebay policies. The seller is not allowed to charge the buyer for insurance; including the insurance in the shipping costs is a way of getting around ebay's policies. The buyer is protected by the MBG (insurance protects the seller.)

Thanks Paralyse ... I am going to pass on this one even though it's one of the varieties that I need. I appreciate your expert opinions.

I wouldn't pass on it just because of me. It's definitely a nice example of the variety, even if I don't think it's got original color.
If you like the coin and the price is right, go for it. Worst-case scenario, you have 14 (30?) days to return it.

With the return available why not? Agreed not MS. I have a similar one in my collection. A true piece of history. It will be passed to my heirs, along with the story of how I acquired it, and teases of who may have handled this haypenny. GL.

Seems like a good price for that coin. Let's see if it gets bid up.

My eyes tell me it's a winner! If I were looking for this coin and had the bread, I'd go for it. It's a very attractive coin in all respects.

I'm no expert but the coin looks like a beauty to me. Of course the big question is would it straight grade, and the time to get it back from a grader is longer than the return window. I've bought a few coins from that seller, they are 'everywhere' on ebay and no problems on my side, but the claim of "MS+" sure seems dubious, especially given there's no way to verify before it's too late. Coin is sold now so I guess the point is moot.

BTW, mine was purchased in 1972 for $3 or so at a coin shop in Western New York. They had this Rolodex type of display where you could move multiple shelves up and down to view inventory. If you wanted to see a coin in hand, you had to ask the salesperson. Memories.........
