That is not a Cud - Cuds are always raised above the rim, not dug down into it. This looks like damage to me. a heavy scrape that removed material.

It's not a Cud because it's incuse and not a raised area of metal. This looks like Post Mint Damage that has removed some of the clad and exposed the copper core. If you weigh the coin, I think you'll find it to be very slightly underweight.

My thoughts as well, Dearborn.

Appears to be post-strike damage.

As others have said.... I believe it to be PMD (Post-Mint Damage).

Maybe not all is lost. Is that a large chip on sword hand guard?

Not a Cud. It's damage ( PMD). Check out COC's to see what a real Cud looks like. https://cuds-on-coins.com/

Could be, but with that damage, it's just a spender now.

an accurate description of the area involved in the question is also a good Idea.
This ^ would have helped us provide a better answer If that was what you wanted. As it does have a Cud but it was not pointed out in the OP as the area that was pointed out was the PMD at the bottom right on the Rev. Hopefully this helps

Actually the anomaly pointed out by Marve and the OP yesterday is NOT a Cud - as Cuds will always involve the rim and not be located in the center of a coin (which is why we all went straight to PMD for the big scrape on the edge at the lower edge in the first images. The lump between the finger and the hilt is a die chip.
