I picked this coin in a two nickel auction being sold as lamination errors. The doubling was pretty apparent from the photos and I thought someone else would spot this and bid accordingly but luckily no one did. I got both War Nickels for $8 shipped which would be a good deal just for the lams and silver I think. The doubling seemed very unusual to me since it only affected strongly the east portion of the coin and not all of the devices. Notice the east and bottom area of the memorial are clearly doubled with nice corner splits on this circulated example. The unusual doubling is categorized on Briansvarietycoins listing as " Class II + V + VI, Distorted, Pivoted and Distended Hub Doubling." There are 92 RPM's listed for this year and this RPM is not that flashy but it is still a neat variety combo. 1945-P WDDR-001 https://www2.briansvarietycoins.com...tings/cat/18http://varietyvista.com/05%20JN%20R...5PRPM039.htm

Thanks for the comments!
I'm unsure how AMERICA is largely unaffected by the doubling while everything around it is? Maybe Tanman can shed some light on this.

Amazing DDR. One I am still hoping to find. I have the 1939 DDR but the doubling on this one is more impressive. Congrats!

Quote: I'm unsure how AMERICA is largely unaffected by the doubling while everything around it is? This is definitely an interesting case... This misaligned hubbing was an earlier one (if not the initial hubbing) where the conical shape of the die wasn't yet flattened enough for a full hubbing to be possible in one squeeze. There may have been some weak impression of AMERICA from that hubbing on the die but it could easily have been obliterated by later hubbings. It's also possible that MONTICELLO and FIVE CENTS are slightly higher relief than USA, which would contribute to how weak (or nonexistent) the impression of AMERICA was during that partial, misaligned hubbing.
