Hello everyone,

This is only the second barber half I've found in Rome.

Diameter is right and it weighs low at 11.52; every half I've bought in Rome (probably 500-600) has pinged even if it is below weight... Thoughts on this one?

(I am not interested in how much you WOULD NOT buy this coin; I'm happy with it and appreciate that some people would not buy this coin)

I don't see any reason to doubt authenticity. It has the correct obv and rev types for the year and typical wear. I'm not a fan of the "ping test."

It looks good to me and I'd say it's weight is acceptable for being circulated. While it does have some PMD on the area above the eagle it does not look that bad for being on the complete opposite side of the world. So, very nice find.

Wonderful, wholesome coin representing the available type well. I like it at G-4, but keep in mind there is some damage in the reverse stars. I would net to AG-3 if it were mine.

From the pics the coin looks to be OK, despite being so worn.

Rarely, but occasionally, genuine coins can be 'dumb'. Usually, the cause of this is internal lamination/s not seen on the surface of the coin. Have a close look at the edge. Evidence of a flan split may? be found.
A ping tone test has some limitations, but
used in conjunction with other tests to help prove authenticity, the ping tone test can be a highly useful test.

I see an honestly worn workhouse of the economy in its day. I'll go with authentic G4.
