1857 Flying Eagle Treated With Verdi-Care

Jimbo48 Valued Member United States 250 Posts	Posted 03/28/2024 8:35 pm Recently I posted about cleaning an indian head covered with dark gunk. It was suggested to treat with acetone then Verdi-Care. As it turned out, it was a great process to recover the natural appearance of the coin and reveal an S on a 1909 Indian head. I recently purchased a nice 1857 Flying Eagle coated with a dark substance. I did the acetone soak then Verdi-Care and I think the coin looks much better and is conserved. It seems the purist of the coin community say to never do anything to coins because it will reduce the value of the coin. To me, I think the acetone/Verdi-Care treatment make the coin more appealing to me. Report this Post to the Staff

There is a little bit of green on the coin so I would keep it in Verdi care for 24 hours which should neutralize anything on the coin. My dealer also recommends coin care but you have to be careful with it. Overall good job on the coin.
