Interesting. Still technically post mint damage as errors are only errors during the minting process...not packaging. Possible it might carry a premium as it's still in pristine condition in the cello but not sure

If the cellophane is not torn in any way, it happened at the Mint. If the cellophane is torn anywhere near the quarter, it's post mint. But, if done at mint, I'm still trying to figure this one out Looks indented. Exactly, I better double up.

The cellophane is perfect, not torn at all. The images above are scans, I will try to take a digital photo, but the cellophane makes it very difficult.

Possibly struck thru debris. Metal scrap possibly would be my guess due to the indentation. Just my opinion.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have added a photo that shows a closeup of the cello.

My apologies GO. The computer I'm on (work computer) kicks you out for some reason after viewing links so I only saw the obverse. I did not want to keep logging back in to see images. Talk about jumping to conclusions! Let me check out the reverse :)

One of the things that people tend to get confused is the term 'post mint damage'...this doesn't mean damage that occurred after the coin left the mint - the term is applicable from the second the coin leaves the coining chamber.
Regardless of where this damage occurred, it is post mint damage by some sort of cutting machine. It is not struck through, because the metal around the shear mark would not be bent if this had happened in the coining chamber.

Thanks Coppercoins. Typically damaged coins have little or no value, is this a unique enough to carry a premium?

No...it's damage. Any way you look at it, it's not an error, it's damage.

Thanks again Coppercoins. I keep learning something new on this forum everyday. I guess its off to ebay to replace my damaged 1988 Uncirculated set. I am still on the hunt for my first error find...

Somebody closed the tote bin door on this one.
I'm not seriously claiming that is the cause, but the metal tote bins DO have a sliding door in the bottom of one side that can be used for dumping the bin. If a coin was in the doorway and someoe slid the door closed on it it could make marks like that.
