Nikon makes a wonderful product. I'm sure it's fine! I use a 35mm Nikon SLR and it takes incredible pictures. For my digital photography, I use an Olympus SP-500UZ. It's a few years old and 6-mega pixels but still takes very nice pictures. I like it The coolpix I have heard are great little digitals.

G'day, it's free, which leaves more money for coins: sounds like the PERFECT camera.
Most modern cameras do a good job.
Get yourself a small tripod, and find a well-lit area, and you're in business ...

Oh I can also get a Canon EOS 10D for $150, would this be better?

It's really a matter of personal preference. I like Nikon vs. Canon but, they are both fine camera manufacturers. The Canon would work well also. $150 is a fair price I believe.
