Executive Coin Co., with whom I've had some very positive contacts, has this coin for sale. I cannot afford better than a decent mid-grade coin, but would like to further my attainable Twenty Cent Piece collection. Do you agree with the seller's grade assessment of vf/xf? What is a reasonable price?

By the way, for those keeping track, I recently obtained my much coveted 1853 Seated Liberty dollar, ANACS-slabbed xf 40. It was affordable, has nice natural toning and even wear. I'll try to get some pictures up in the near future.

Thanks in advance on the Twenty Cent Piece opinions.

It's hard to give a very accurate grade from that picture, but I'd say it's easily VF-20, with a pretty good chance at VF-30.

Below is a link to a reasonable retail price guide.

I would say VF-30 is a fair assesment, and it might even be close to EF. It looks like it has all the breast feathers on the eagle, but I can't tell if the Liberty on the shield is complete.

If you have any 20 cent pieces that are duplicates and you want to unload one, please PM me with the details. I dont have any, and would like one for my collection.

Sure looks like it would make VF30 without a doubt. This is an expensive coin even in lower grades so the price would be a big factor to me. Buying it raw, I hope you can get a good price.

Yes - I agree with the seller's assessment of VF/XF.

Bilbo, thanks for the link. I often refer to Numismedia price guide, but on the Twenty Cent Pieces, particularly the CC mint mark, they appear to be hugely lower than both the PCGS guide and even the HA guide. It is the largest disparity of prices for this coin than any I have seen.

CoinHunter, The Liberty on the shield is complete, with the 'BE' a bit soft.

I currently have one each of the 1875, 1875S, and 1876. Since I am not collecting the proofs, the CC is the last obtainable coin in the series. Sorry, no spares yet. Also, I have yet to learn how to PM on this site. Is that the same as emailing?

beherring1964, it is expensive. The asking price is $740. I think if it grades VF30 or 35, the price is not outrageous. Agree? Or is this a case of a fool and his money soon being parted?

If you want to get in contact, just click on the member's screenname, and then look for the link on the profile that says something like "email member" or "email user". It works just the same.

If the coin's problem free, that price is within reason. Watch out for possible tooling/whizzing. Look at the field just to the right of Miss Liberty's knee. It might be my imagination but it looks like something is going on there.

Ok, stop it, you are killing me

That coin has an awesomely original, dark, and crusty look to it
I would call that one VF30/35 but definitely above average so EF money is not unreasonable for a coin of that scarcity.

I don't see evidence of the whizzing mentioned, but the pictures are smallish. This one is a contender. I have my eye and bid one other, as well, so the one pictured here is a back-up.

I'd say the seller's grade is fair to conservative and I could see this coin in a PCGS EF-40 slab, IF it is problem-free. The dark color and small photos could be hiding some surface issues but it looks like a nice one from the available images. If the seller has a solid return policy this could be a good choice for that double-dime set!

Finally, a company with a good website, good photos, ok prices, and a supposed good reputation. They might get some business from me!
