this one is not mine but I'm posting it to see how good you are at discerning these grades. the coin is CAC green beaned. i'll even give you a hint. the coin graded MS63, 64 or 65

I think the reverse might hold this to MS-64.

Since you give us the cac clue I'm going with a strong MS64. Chatter below states and minor marks on the cheek might hold it back.

Large price jumps between grades on this one! A tough coin in MS. Great strike. MS-64 all day. Sure hope they didn't call this a 63

PCGS graded this one MS64 and CAC green beaned it saying it was a solid example of one. most folks got it. I believe the coin is graded correctly. I probably should not have listed that it was beaned. I wonder if that would have made a difference for some of the 64's
for those missing it at MS63, the reason this coin grades a 64 is that all the luster is there on both sides and is unbroken. on coins like this look closely at those light scuffs on the cheek, all of it is superficial and for the most part only removed some luster. minor field marks on the reverse is not enough to drop it to a 63.
the three grades of 63, 64 and 65 are the most common MS grades. knowing the difference and what to look for will help in your future assessments. always remember that MS65 is not a perfect coin contrary to popular belief by some new to the hobby. there are 5 higher grades. PCGS photograde doesn't even show an example of 70. keep in mind you will even see some small flaws on coins at MS66 or even 67. once you get to 68 the issues are mainly limited to discoloration, strike and/or eye appeal with very few if any small scuffs. for 69 you will find a flawless coin, sharply struck, full blazing luster and eye appeal

Nice, fun exercise this. And thank your for explaning. Somtimes I get confused thou Is it luster that take this coin to ms 67? Because the strike isn't so sharp?

Quote: Is it luster that take this coin to ms 67? Because the strike isn't so sharp? yes, marks/flaws first then luster second. everything else holds less weight in grading. also keep in mind die polishing. this can be construed as strike weakness. the only way to know the difference is knowing the series. buff nickels are a good example, anyone purchasing these should really understand this
