There have been many discussions about Security of Coins on various threads, but I just watched a taped version of an American TV show called In Plain Sight. Now I know it was television but it was the best securrity I have seen for coins yet in this episode which aired 19 April 2009 Quote: the gold coins. ... had stolen ...from a chemist who, we find out later, coated them with the alkaloid poison -- which ended up killing ..., as ...divvied up the coins for her kids. It also nearly killed ... and ..., who both handled the coins when they went to get them from the storage lockers ...
there was some serious bad ju-ju to those gold pieces, even if a single one was worth $45,000. It turned out that it wasn't voodoo that made the coins evil, but poison. So who can obtain for me some "alkaloid poison" to coat my coins with oh please also tell me how to avoid poisoning myself when I use this wonderful security tactic

Plant and animal/insect poisons generally fall in the alkaloid category, nasty stuff that can be easily absorbed through the skin

After I read rggoodie's post I knew if there was going to be a follow up post, it was going to be biokemist's. I personally think it serves them right. By doing something illegal, they're basically asking for it.

Haha, good one DVCollector! As I understand it, Chinese counterfeits of poisoned coins in slabs have already been spotted on ebay as well!

I'd rather have a security system that prevented the coins from being stolen in the first place. A dead/sick theif doesn't always get you your coins back!
And what if you pass away and your family/heirs take those coins out for sale or storage? Using poison to protect your belongings is way too dangerous, imho.

Would it be considered "entrapment" if you put up signs saying "I have thousands of dollars in Gold & Silver coins in my house". And then eventually when the thieves "hit it" they become deceased from the toxicity ?....hmmmm......I wonder .44 Magnum works well while you're "actually home"......but this could be an interesting idea for "when you're gone" !.... Is it legal to protect "home & property" with POISON ? Call it....... Lethal Force by absentee presence !..... I've heard of a thief suing a homeowner who had such dangerous steps (inside or outside the house he was breaking in) that he hurt himself (before, during, or immediately after the robery) and successfully won some money in a lawsuit .......(Manhattan, Ks. 20-30 years ago) So.....the real question is then......can the "deceased victims family" sue me for "poisoning my own property" after he steals it from me ? Answer.......PROBABLY SO !.....IT'S THE AMERICAN WAY RIGHT ?

I think the important thing to consider is that you shouldn't slab your poisoned coins, because then the thief has to break the slab to hurt himself.

The .44 mag still causes rapid lead poisoning, use gloves either way!

The only problem is that it was too slow acting...they still got away with the coins. Quote: So who can obtain for me some "alkaloid poison" to coat my coins with Biokemist is right. You can grow your own using plants like daffodils, jimsonweed or nightshade.

Until we can train our gold coins to actively identify and eliminate the enemy, I like the passive trap.

If your really want a fool proof method of not having your Gold coins stolen, try this. Have them all melted down, made into door knobs for your house. Criminals will take anything and everything. But have you ever heard of criminals taking the door knobs? Somewhere I saw a post about a coined toilet seat. So here is one more thing to stop crooks. Have all your Gold coins placed in clear plastic and made into a toilet seat. Now just use a toilet seat cover and no one will steal that. Look carefully at a Bee's nest. Make one like that out of foam or something like that. Make it hollow and place all your coins inside and hang it right out in plain view. Think any crooks steal a Bee's nest? Place a bird house in your yard. Make it out of some kind of weather proof plastic. Place any coins in those and no crooks that I've ever heard of steel bird houses. Put up signs all over about your dogs. Then purchase those fake dog turds and hollow them out for your coins. Think a criminal would steel a dog's turd? I think I'll go into the coin security system job.
