Fairly common although I've been searching for other coins that appear to have a 5 in the crown. The H variety do not show any similar feature in the crown. To be fair I don't have much experience with the older coins and realize this is probably not a 5 but it sure looks like one. Is this a normal feature?

Sure looks like a 5 to me but I have not heard of this before - I was hoping some of the experts would jump in.
Of course I had to look at mine and there was simply a dot where your 5 is. I can't see any way damage or a better strike would get my normal one to look like yours. Nice!

Hi joewobblie, this is graded as an MS-60 so should be quite clear.

RogerD - I see what you see - but on my EF one which has nice detail at that location I just don't see it. I also went to look at the PCGS site for Mint State 1902's - some very nice ones but no match. Nor was there a mention at the Canada Coins site. I'm stumped!

Interesting!
Mine is too worn to tell.
Looked at a fair number of high grade examples on ebay, none like yours.
Likely Pareidolia, cool keeper nonetheless.

LOL! Pareidolia is what I said to a friend when I showed it asking if his were similar. Seems a bit bizarre but fun.
