Any opinions on how the release of the new Lincoln Cent series will affect the value of memorials, wheats, or even Indian cents? Will common date wheats soon rise to the value of common date Indian cents?

My personal opinion is that they (memorial cents) won't rise for some time (several years possibly) simply because they are still overwhelmingly available and were minted in such huge quantities it's going to take a while for them to dry up in circulation...after they are no longer easily found in circulation, then I would guess the regular rules apply...condition, varieties, etc. Just my thoughts...

The anticipation and the resulting anxiety of waiting for that special coin to arrive is almost as fun as having it in your hand.

Since attrition and mintage figures add to the values of Indian Head cents, I doubt we'll see matching prices on common date Wheaties in our lifetime, if ever. That said, I do expect increased demand to drive prices on scarcer date coins for several years to come. ~ Jim

I think we'll see prices of the finest Memorials gradually increase in price. As I've said many times here, finding quality pieces is much more difficult than you might think. I can tell you this....no way I would EVER sell my Memorials at the prices listed in guides....those prices are absolute rubbish for high-end coins.

The TPG's don't much account for the things I personally look at in a Memorial cent, such as full steps. As an example, I posted my 1983-D on another forum and a member with a PCGS MS-67 coin said mine blew his away and he posted a pic, his had gas bubbles, mine had none. PCGS apparently didn't care. That's just one of many examples I've run across in my collector career.

With as many coins as PCGS sees on a daily basis, I doubt they have the passion for this series as some of us, especially you Thad
I have an idea, you should apply at PCGS and put those graders in their place You have my vote

I don't see price changes happening soon. Look at the nickel. The new series didn't affect the prices of older nickels. I think for most people after the Lewis and Clark Nickels, State Quarters, Sacagawea dollars and Presidential dollars, this is just simply another new design. It is only some collectors like alot of us on this site that will collect them. I think the public is getting tired of the new designs on our coinage. Even banks are tired of ordering them and alot are not getting them in. To the banks the new one cent piece is another pain.

Yeah.....it's an interesting time nowadays with the "new design fever" that is hitting every coin denomination.
When are they going to change the Rosie Dime ?.......that's the only one left now !
