Today I saw why you get rolls from 1 bank and bring them back to another (which I started doing now). When I went to the 2nd bank today I ended up with the one teller that doesn't like coin roll hunters. The vault was locked so I couldn't get a box of pennies. They had 20 rolls in the safe up front though so I got those. I'm almost positive those are rolls I returned about a month ago to this bank or at least a good portion of them are. There was a bright side when I asked about quarters though. The teller had 12 rolls a customer brought in. Seven of them were original State Quarter bank rolls and the other 5 were customer wrapped BU State Quarter rolls - 12 different states!!

I mark my wrappers so at least I know if I get my nickels back, although I have a buy bank and a dump bank. Nice about the quarters, though. =)

I imagine tellers probably do get quite bored of coin roll hunters, to be fair. Banks aren't coin shops. Their duty is to supply you with a banking service, and part of this includes reasonable requests for physical currency. If you ask for 20 rolls of cents (not pennies - they are CENTS and I wish people would call the American coin as such), and they supply you with 20 rolls of cents then they have done their job regardless of whether they're all freshly minted 2024s, all 1909 S-VDBs, or a random smattering of dates. I've seen some people on here (I'm not directing this at you) who seem to think that it's a bank's duty to supply them with interesting coins. This is what makes good relationships valuable - if you get someone willing to assist you, then don't abuse the privilege (and also use separate banks for picking up/depositing, as you seem to now realise).

Honestly, if I was a bank manager, I wouldn't do it at all. Not my job and it would cost me money.

A little story about banks. My son-in-law last year found paperwork on a CD his Dad had bought him like 15 years ago.
The selling bank had been bought and sold 3 or 4 times since, so like 4 bank names later he calls and they tell him they can't find it. After 2 months of calling every 2 weeks max, they tell him, now get this.... "We'll keep looking and if we find it we'll send you a check."
My daughter told me this and I called my teammate who is a lawyer with all the information. HE called the bank... they called back 30 minutes later, whaddya know, they found it. It was a 5K CD, he got a check for 16K in the mail 4 days later.
They were straight-up lying to my son-in-law, that's how much they care about you.

I buy my dump bank (credit Union) breakfast every now and then (Chick Fil A, McDonalds, Bob Evans, etc) and those little gestures will do wonders.

Turns out not all the penny rolls were mine. I came across a roll of lower quality wheat cents which had one 1902 Indian head in it. So I guess I will have to go through all of them thoroughly now. As far as the quarters, one DDO turned up. I wonder how many customers a bank would lose turning away coin roll hunters.....The tellers at the 2 banks I go to constantly tell me about other hunters. More people may be doing it than you think..
