This is only the 6th barber half I've found in Rome... Some grading thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks everyone,

I'll grade it at VG.
Errers and Varietys.

VG10. Reverse may have an issue.

I like it. Mid VG for me. That spot of black crud might be reduced or eliminated with acetone.

Vg cleaned. Decent eye appeal...maybe work on the reverse spot.

Fyi, this is a key date barber half with only 188,000 minted. I put this as a VG-10 as well...

It appears lightly cleaned in these images. VG details and probably market-acceptable for a straight-grade.

I see no evidence of cleaning.

And a question - how can this be a VG-10 with only 2 letters of Liberty ("LI") clearly visible? Only traces of any other letter. Comments invited.

Agree with Coinfrog. For me, I need to see 3 Letters in Liberty to reach VG.

Take a look at the PCGS Photograde VG-10 obverse . It has nearly identical amounts of detail. You can see part of every letter. The reverse has much stronger feather/wing detail than I would expect to see on a VG-08 as well. If you take a look at the VG grading from David Lawrence's Complete Guide to Barber Havles, it lines up with VG-10.

I'm at VG10 as well Quote: how can this be a VG-10 with only 2 letters of Liberty ("LI") clearly visible? because you can't just look at one marker to determine a grade full rims with denticles. full motto. sharpness of lettering on both sides. roundness of date, cap definition. there are more markers. to me it looks like really nice solid VG10. the gung on the rev will most likely come off with acetone

Looks like a VG-10 to me. Nice semi-key date.
