Yokozuna Pillar of the Community United States 4618 Posts	Posted 06/11/2024 04:14 am to the CCF! As noted above, this coin was damaged by exposure to intense heat. It could have been a house fire or maybe in a car that burned, but it's what some numismatist would call a 'Campfire Coin.' The heat caused the cupronickel layer to melt slightly and separate from the copper core forming the bubble seen on the obverse. This would also explain the black soot deposits seen on the surfaces of both sides. It's not an error, unfortunately, just Post Mint Damage.
