My sister gave this to me and I have no idea what to do with it. Any idea as to a value? I don't collect errors so I don't have a clue.

Obverse:

Yep, that is a nice off-center error, no date but I am almost positive it is pre-1982 since the zinc is not exposed(you should weigh it to confirm). Value $3-5 for no date, a buck or two more with a date.

It weighs in at 3.05g on my scale so yes - it's a bronze cent.

It's approx. 60% OC (off center). These are the errors I like to collect with varying degrees of off centeredness. Nice sister! It looks to be MS possibly MS63RD. Value as stated about $4-$5 with those with a date and/or mintmark going for slightly more.

Well I haven't tried to grade it but after another look, I'm sure it would be MS63RD at least.

I've a got a handful of bronze Memorial proofs that I don't collect either so I'll put all these together on the B/S/T Forums this weekend and see what happens.

Thanks for the comments.

Has to be a brass cent - cannot be zinc. Obverse is the wrong style for a zinc cent. Looks mid to late 1970s.

I am trying to get my wife to start a little collection and the only thing she finds interesting is error coins. I won her a clipped penny on the contest board several months ago, and I would like to start getting a few off centers.

I will be looking for it on the b/s/t forum.

Was that my contest
I'll be going to Long Beach Coin Expo, a major show (400+ dealers) out here end of this Month. I'm looking to pick up a few more error Lincolns for my collection but will definitely keep my eye out for you

That is very nice. I've seen these at coin shows. I would think it would be nearly impossible to see them in change.

The off centers like that would have had to be found in a bag. They would never fit into a roll.
