Hi everyone,

I recently came across a 1975-S Bicentennial Eisenhower dollar and noticed what appears to be a doubled die obverse ( DDO) error. The doubling seems evident on the date and lettering. I've attached clear photos showing the details. It seems pretty obvious of the doubling to me. However, as I'm a couple months in, I'm aware how new folks tend to see doubling everywhere lol

I'm seeking opinions on whether this could indeed be a genuine DDO error and any insights on its potential rarity and value. Your expertise and feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for taking the time to look and share your thoughts.

@mark, I'll fix the year on your title in a minute as the date is 1976 rather than 1975. It is kinda hard to tell from your pictures, but I note that there is only one known DOO for this mint/date (a proof). Here is a link so that you can compare with your coin:

Spense,

Thank you for the reply. I noticed my typo and made the change, I appreciate the help on that too. It seems I'm always good for one error myself on posts.

I saw that as well when researching this. Normally, I'd steer clear of asking about an error that hasn't been documented. However, this is my first coin that seems very obvious about the DD

Again, thank you for all of your feedback I appreciate it.

Even though the date on the coin states 1976- it 'was' minted in 1975 (being that it is a type 1 Ike. - Type 2's were minted in 1976)

You genuinely only see 1 "B"? That is fine and I'm more pessimistic now that I've got some experience and have done the homework. So if you only see a single B and/or see what I see, please give me an education and tell me what I'm seeinh

For starters, I think you need to filter your light source. Indirect sunlight through a tissue works okay. Silver produces a lot of reflections. I believe this is the Ike silver business strike (if it's a proof, that would be good to know). Those features could be die wear, or machine doubling—which is common on big coins of that era—or something else.
