Excellent Siggies all around - and a lovely liard from @erafjel!
I think I had an 1590s Siggy somewhere - will need to check if I made any photos. Almost surely have photos of several other 1590s coins...

I think I commented somewhere else on CCF about Polish mints during Siggie's reign. The historically "main" Royal Mint at Krakow wasn't even operating in the 1590s (it would re-open in 1600), but eight other mints were banging out trojaks in large numbers (apparently, since they are abundant 400 years later). I'll also post this 1597 giorgino of the Duchy of Ferrara, one of the last coins struck in this state (and the only one I have from here that fits this thread). In 1598 duke Alfonso II died without an heir and the duchy was gobbled up by the Papal States, though another branch of the Este family would continue to rule in the duchies of Modena and Reggio nell'Emilia for another century or so (we see in the legend that Alfonso is duke of not only FER but also MVT (Modena) and REG (Reggio).

I don't have a numismatic photography setup to allow me to contribute much to these threads, but I enjoy reading them -- one of these threads is actually the reason I joined this forum years ago.

Quote: I don't have a numismatic photography setup to allow me to contribute much to these threads You don't need some kind of hyperspecial setup to make legible coin photos! You just need a smartphone with a usable camera, some half-decent lighting, and either a steady hand or some kind of stand to put the phone on. (And when I say "some kind of stand" I mean it pretty generically; in my experience, one option that doesn't work too badly is a roll of toilet paper.) OTOH if you don't have a smartphone with a camera that can focus at 10-20 cm distances, things might get trickier.

Quote: You just need a smartphone Ha, I'm probably the last person on the planet who never got onto that bandwagon. (Hey, that kind of money can go towards coins!) I have a ~20 year old digital camera and tripod, but it's never been good enough at close shots to be worthwhile to digitize my collection. I've been meaning to get a setup from MacroCoins, but it's a decent investment (money and time)... and I have concerns with timing the purchase of a nice DSLR with a compatible stable Windows OS such that the setup will last at least ten years.

I have a ~20 year old digital camera and tripod, but it's never been good enough at close shots to be worthwhile to digitize my collection. Yeah, that could be a problem... my photos before I got a smartphone were Actually Pretty Bad. These days [...OK, as of 2021, when I was still in Moscow] my photography setup looks like this: ...basically I put the phone on some kind of stand (it was a cookie box this time), put the coin such that it falls outside the stand's shadow, and just click on the focus and take the pic. This one was kinda awkward because I didn't get it out of the 2x2 (I thought I had out-of-the-2x2 pics of this coin, but if so I couldn't find them), so you'll have to deal with very bad pictures, again... Tsardom of Russia Feodor I Ivanovich (1584-98) AR wire kopek dated ΡΔ = [7]104 AM = 1595/6 AD (mostly in 1596) KG 114, Numista 84863AFAIK this is the first Russian dated coin issue (again, there are several subtypes, but the 2x2 says this is KG 114 so that's what I went with in this description).

I use a 10-year old digital camera, no tripod, fairly steady hands. All the photos I post with the blue brackground (cover on one of my numismatic reference books) are shot that way. Most of them are OK, though very small coins are tough (by the time you crop them any little bit out of focus starts to look bad). Probably a tripod would help but habits die hard. The camera has lasted longer than the laptops. You might be surprised the results you can get... Another Polish trojak for (15)96, Lublin mint.

There only seem to be two options for HO RD - KG 113 and 114. They have the same obverse (die 2) which is actually quite hard to tell on this coin. But the reverse is definitely die 2, which is KG 114. Die 2 was also used on KG115, which I have. It is marked B HO PE; i.e. V NO RE: V NO = in Novgorod. R = 100 E = 5 (7)105-5508 = 1597. Feodor Ivanovich Kopek, 1597
Novgorod. Silver, 0.72g. Horseman with a spear on a galloping horse, right; B (HO) PE (in Novgorod, 1597). Tsar and Gr-and Pr(ince F)yodor Iva-(no)vich (of all Rus) (KG 115).
