Quote: I was a little confused by the date of Spence's akce (is it 824 or 825?), so I looked it up on Zeno; it's a one-year type, dated 825 AH = 1422 AD. (Apparently the date is retrograde on Spence's example.) Yes, I agree with @j1m. A one-year type. At first glance the 5 is not apparent. But it's form is quite angular, and the vertical down-stroke on the right side is overlapping the "epsilon" shape to the left. Being retrograde makes this coin even more interesting IMO. Nice example, @Spence. And good research by @j1m

Beautiful coins, everyone! Especially @Spence's 1419 groschen - it looks almost like it still has some of that mint luster going @ttkoo - unfortunately, I'm not sure how much I trust the 821 AH date on your Bahmani tanka - the 1 is far enough off flan that I can't be confident it's not a 822. I guess 823 is probably ruled out by kerning, and I originally assumed that maybe so was 822 but here's one on MA shops (sold) and at a glance the kerning looks very similar. Fortunately the date is already covered by @bd251's clearer coin. Updated list of missing dates: 1464, 1463, 1462, 1457, 1454, 1446, 1436, 1428, 1426, and we have everything after that (including 1418, the date for January 1st - happy new year!) The holes are slowly being filled up. Hopefully some day we'll fill the big 1460s gap as well (and what a glorious day it would be).

@j1m Don't be sad for my AH821. It holds pride of place in my growing collection of Bahmani silvers. I'll delete it from your collection of dated coins, so it doesn't cause any confusion. I originally thought the 1436 (AH 839) was an 859, until I had a closer look today while going through my pile of Gujarats.

Very nice indeed! I love how clear the dates seem to be on those Jaunpur tankas.
And apologies to @ttkoo for casting doubt at that coin, but I really couldn't figure out why the date was supposed to be identifiable. (It's already been posted on Zeno, so I expect that the people there would also figure it out eventually; perhaps the date is identifiable after all.)
New listing of remaining gaps: 1464, 1463, 1462, 1457, 1454, 1446, 1428, 1426, and we have everything past that so far. IIRC we're expecting good coverage of the remaining 1410s but maybe a few gaps in 1400s? I think there's supposed to be better coverage again some way past that, though, where the How Far Back threads start relying on AH dates due to the scarcity of everything else.

Quote: Very nice indeed! I love how clear the dates seem to be on those Jaunpur tankas. Thanks. This was a particularly good batch that I got. The 819 (tomorrow) is really the only incomplete date. The date location on the tanka does seem to result in few questionable dates. The falus on the other hand can be quite problematic as the ones digit can easily end up partially off flan.
