I agree about there not being many laminations on proof coins. Probably part of the issue of finding examples goes back to collectors and the grading companies consider laminations like a defect. I had one variety to ANACS come back as "Genuine". Collectors don't want to send something off and have it come back as "Genuine".
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
A short update. Having exhausted my internet research skills on this coin, I reached out to Jon Sullivan. He said that sizable laminations are relatively scare on proof coins, and that this nickel has modest value as a collectible mint error.
Glad I jumped on this one when I had the chance. I will tuck it away in my collection as a very attractive example of a lamination mint error. I'm sure I will eventually acquire a big lamination War Nickel, but it's nice to have a pristine coin showing the phenomenon, too.
