Dirt find just out of Acetone. Would appreciate a few opinions as I'm hesitant to take restoration any further.

I'm at VF on it. Excellent find, DOCC!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

VF25
since I'm not seeing a bunch of hairline or anything other than the discoloration of the surfaces it could grade straight. the only one I see is a possible scratch from K9 to the ear that could
i would try another acetone soak. ,maybe overnight. its not going to hurt the coin

Gave it another 6 hour soak, seemed to help a bit. Before and after pics for reference

the differences between the original coin and now is crazy. I would have never thought that it would have cleaned it up like that. I'm still at VF25 (scratched) but nice job.

Quote: I would have never thought that it would have cleaned it up like that. Honestly I've learned so much over the last decade about how different soil types impact silvers and coppers. This find was in super dry hard pack which is essentially void of any consistent moisture. Most material drops off with a 5 minute distilled water phase - Acetone kills the remaining organics quickly. Most coppers will come out of this type of ground as Brown, sans any build-up. Dream conditions, although rare.

I prefer the first picture at the top of the thread before the last acetone soak. Starting to look too clean with tell-tale dark areas just around the stars.
