I've begun expanding my Buffalo nickel collection to include errors. I picked up this one recently. I was happy just to find one in any condition. It's an acid-etched date.

Pretty clear doubling even in this condition!

This one is a difficult find in higher grades. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have a better one. But for now it fills a spot.

Having many variety/error Buffalo nickels in my collection, this is one that has eluded me. Great find.

Thanks all. @Tonyqt There's one online now for a G4 grade asking $700. However, I won't be making that upgrade. I'd like to have it between F and VF but there aren't many out there.

Congrats, Doc .... Cool acquisition! Much rarer than the tripod and overdate Buffs, methinks.

Having actively collected Buffalo errors myself some years ago, this is the first 1917 DDR I've seen. Contrary to what others say, when it boils down to acquiring truly scarce/rare coins as this piece is, I always discount the condition. After all, a second opportunity to acquire such a piece at a reasonable cost may not present itself in one's lifetime. Few collectors will ever own one of these, much less even know that they exist!

Also, I'm a BIG fan of SEGS quality holders and no-nonsense grading.

Thanks, ExoGuy.

I purchased and read through The Authoritative Reference on Buffalo nickels 2nd Edition by John Wexler, Ron Pope, and Kevin Flynn and saw varieties I didn't know about. After reading through it, I decided this would be the first tough variety I'd go after that wouldn't break the bank but would still be a hard find.
