Hello all I'm new here. I have a 1796 dollar. At first glance I knew it was a fake but after a lot of reading testing and I just don't know. I can't find anything similar as far as fakes and the wear on the coin suggest it's age. The lettering around the edge is correct the wieght is correct thickness and diameter is correct silver content is correct. I'm lost and wouldn't it be nice to have come across something more rare than the rarest known to exist. 1796 was a crazy year at the mint so idk. What are you guys thought on this?

Post a Reverse pic too so those with more knowledge can compare die pairs. Details are mushy for as little wear that it shows. I'd say most certainly a counterfeit.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.

Total counterfeit without the reverse image! I actually refer to "coins" like these as Red Book Counterfeits ("RBC"); the 1795 Off Center bust was only used on a variety of 1795...

Also nicknamed the "vampire counterfeit" for the 2 prominent puncture marks on the neck.
