Hello,
I found this 1994 P Kennedy half dollar in a bank roll and it looks like it has some raised die lines behind Kennedy's ear, hair and in front of his face. I am thinking it is an abraded die but it also looks like there might be a die clash on the obverse and reverse.
The areas that look like die clashes are in front of the eye and the chin and the reverse lines from the wings.

Any thoughts?

It's a weird phenomenon. You can see the lines inside Kennedy's ear and below the jaw line. That doesn't seem consistent with filing or abrasion. How would you get into the die cavities without fouling them up?

Roller lines seems like a better theory, although they tend to be uniform across the coin face and also tend to appear on both sides of the coin simultaneously. These do not. So I'm personally stumped on a positive id.

It sure looks like the obverse die had Feeder Finger scrapes that were transferred to the coin during the strike. These are really interesting to me. Nice coin, thanks for posting it!

I recently found a Roosevelt dime with the same scraped look to the reverse.

Great post/topic here! I went back and read one of COOP's Feeder Finger Damage posts. Great information!

Learned something new today. I didn't think that Feeder Finger Damage got below the die surface. But in Dr. Coop's image library was a nickel that clearly shows lines inside of Jefferson's face, which is deeper on the die.
