Yes, not sure exactly what I am looking for. This one looks like normal date number, but not sure what else to look for.

Welcome to CCF! As said before, could go to vamworld.com. Some varieties are easily seen like large die breaks, some doubled dies etc. But a lot of varieties have very small differences and you need a magnifier loupe to see them like letter/date doubling, clash with letter transfer, small die chips etc. Your Morgan is circulated. Circulation can sometimes wear away variety features. I don't see anything that stands out on your Morgan. There may be some small die chips where the outside circles of the 8s meet. But it may just be a normal die. I usually do not like toned coins but I like the toning on this one.

@idk, can you please take it down a notch? I think that there are more welcoming ways to get your point across. Thx.

That's exactly what we're seeing here and very common on the 188x coins - apparently a place susceptible to die chipping. There are several interesting varieties to look for on the 1887 such as the Alligator Eye, Donkey Tail D and E-clash. Check those out on VamWorld and let us know if you find something.

By the way, @TArnold, I see you are in Chapel Hill, NC. You are not too far away to join us at the Raleigh Coin Club. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month in West Raleigh, and we would be glad to have you. Shoot me an email if you'd like more info or go to our club website:

Thanks for the helpful info and the invite Bump111! I'll check out VamWorld and I'll take a look at the Raleigh club. I'm just getting my feet wet, but that sounds interesting.

I went back to your photos to see if I could pin this one down a little more. You have a near date example. Go to this website and see if you can identify which variety you have. For me, this is what makes the hobby fun. Make sure you have a good loupe or other magnifier handy and enjoy!

Thanks for the help! Looks to me like it is 1887-P VAM-14D . The die scratch between the T and Y is very faint, but changing the lighting it shows up. Otherwise it looks just like the examples.
