*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***Well gave this bugger a 3 hour soak after breaking it out of the holder. Not graded by a reputable 3gp. It had a haze I didnt know if it was toning or from holder Idk if there is any visible change? I think I need E-zest in my life.... I will now let it soak for longer. Poor Jack First before pics After

You might have better results after a four+ day soak. It's worked for me on clad haze about 70% of the time.

Whatever it is, it may be an irreversible reaction with the metal. If a longer acetone soak does not work, I would call it quits. e-Z-est does not play nice with clad coins and I think trying it would make it look worse.

Yeah I agree about the haze on coins being difficult to correct. I would try a longer soak as suggested, can't hurt to try. Good practice as well.

Now that you say it dearborn the S-mark looks a bit strange. Posted this in general first as it says one can discuss cleaning and preservation there. Is that a variation or error ? The last pics shows Jack in acetone Quote: Keep in mind that ezest is a cleaner and acetone is a conserver. John1 Yes true that, would like to try ms70 on a hazy cheap coin like this just to see what I does

Quote: Good job cleaning Acetone is an accepted form of conserving. But it didn't help in this case.

Acetone and other organic solvents will do nothing to that haze. I've tried 'em all and then some.
I don't collect or pay much attention to anything except Lincolns but I've heard MS70 can be effective on proof haze. If you go all out with EZest, be VERY careful. I have seen people ruin clad coins with it and proofs are very sensitive.....especially clad proofs.
The bigger question, why bother unless it has sentimental value to you? I think these are probably like $5-10 coins? Easier to sell it and buy a replacement.

I find it interesting to see how the coin is responding, and better to find out on a cheap coin than ruining a nice one. Acetone has improved some other of my coins.
Ezest seems a bit strong, if I decide to try out more ways on this coin it will be ms70. But first I will await the 24hour trial.
