Looks like acid damage ( PMD). There's no Misaligned Die or Partial Collar. The low weight is a dead giveaway of it being an acid coin. It's supposed to way 8.1 grams.

an acid dipped dollar - we see this a lot on quarters also. The copper is eroded by the acid faster than the cladding. (the copper is a much softer metal than the copper/nickel cladding.)

Dearborn said it all, I agree. Some household and commercial cleaners will do that, maybe was at the bottom of a tool box that had spilled stuff in it or a students experiment? Who knows. Bottom line is it is damage and has no extra value.

all - was this done to the coin to make it look like an error? (Not by the person posting it! Just previously ...)

Agree with above. Hard to know what acidic environment this coin was in or how long it was in it.
Even just being buried in highly acid soil can erode the copper faster than the cupro-nickel clad layer.

Right - acid eats away at the softer copper metal first.

but it IS the first Dollar coin to look like this - all the rest have been quarters.
So keep it as a novelty.
