Hi all, so I know for a fact that this coin is fake due to only weighing 20 grams, also the manner in which I acquired it (bought too good to be true Pokemon card packs, seller sent this instead to me). I also had a feeling based on the color that it looked like other fake coins I had seen, but what other signs are there that show this isn't real? Trying to get better on just looking at a coin, more so than just a "feeling". Too bad, though, I was initially excited thinking I would rather have this than cards. Thanks!

Ah yes, don't have a magnet, but tissue test compared to a silver dime also works. Thanks for that! Otherwise, just looking at the coin itself, I have a hard time noticing the tiny details that could be off. The porous-ness seems to be more so a picture quality thing, but can see it a tiny bit looking at it.

Unless I am missing something, other than the weight, it appears okay to me.

If only 20g, then that pretty much settles it.

When I buy cull Morgan and Peace dollars I use a scale, magnet and ping test. Morgan Peace and other coins have a specific frequency sound when tapped on the edge, most fakes sound very different. See SoundMoneyMetals Youtube channel about pinging coins.

It's got the grainy look to it. Looks fake. The weight is a big giveaway to it being fake.

The leatherette surfaces are um, interesting. Pretty rough casting.
I'd demand the card packs. This is a terrible bait-and-switch.

My allergies were bad this week. Debby washed the irritants away, so I am seeing this with clearer eyes today. Reminds me of when the lights came on after last call.

Wow, these keep coming up and folks keep asking... It is cast, which explains the surfaces and the partial filled "O" in OF. It also has the common slash on the eagle, and if you tried to attribute it the "CC" does not match a genuine 1881-C VAM,
