This is on an old, crusty 1972 no mint mark Lincoln Cent. Is this PMD on the short T and S? If not, what could have made it this way? I have never seen another one like it.

Post strike damage I'm thinking--appears the impacted elements were 'crushed' hard early in circulation. Some metal moved and splayed.

Notice the semi-circular scraping below the S and T. Whatever caused that also affected the letters.

This must be the day of the "shorty T". This is a 1978 D Lincoln Cent.
