Hi,
Yesterday I just purchased a 1904 Double Eagle graded by PCGS at MS 63 and I was wondering what a fair price would have been.(I paid 1950) It also seems to be in an older case so I was wondering if they have changed their grading standards Does anyone think the prices of double eagles will spike again like they did in the last few months?

The price you paid IMO is very fair. Especially given it's in a PCGS holder. I would suspect the price of gold is going to climb in the future as inflationary issues and worldwide uncertainty on the economy and governments plays out.

$1950 seems like a fair price. I don't think the grading standards have changed per se but the application of the grading standards does vary.

I would expect gold to take off next year and possibly hit $1,500 by 2011. Your coin will certainly appreciate in value but don't expect to get $3K for it next year. That may take 2-3 years. The gold market should continue it's bull run through 2012 before pulling back as the economy makes a full recovery.

Or the Fall/pre-fall market

Oh wait! A fall market is traditionally bad for commodities! But it's not technically summer yet!

I have heard that some of the older PCGS graded coins were harshly graded (i.e. undergraded) so yours might be even better than 63.

With that said, alot of the dealers in this area told me that the market for pre-1933 gold has cooled off over the past 2 weeks. It was red hot there for awhile.

As long as you are happy with the purchase and dont have buyers remorse, you made a good purchase!
