Hi I bought this a while back for a very reasonable price. I then noticed the next coin in the auction was similar or the same but went for $1600 at auction. My guess is that they are the same error but labeled differently. Although this isn't my area of expertise. Any help would be great. I'm leaving toe links to heritage auctions. The first one is my coin and labeled reverse die cap. $124

This one is labeled obverse counter brokage. Mine has the counter brokage as well. This one was over $1600

I wonder if "people" in the know saw something others didn't, including PCGS.

I wonder if it has to do with the obverse motto being fully visible on the second one?
The motto IGWT on yours seems to "flow" over the edge.

I don't see a fully formed rim on yours but I'm not sure how that might be an indication of anything.

Maybe the counter brockage is the better one to have on the label over the die cap?
Plus, the other coin has very appealing closeup photos.
My thoughts anyway.

Both of these coins are double-struck reverse die caps. The specimen labeled "counterbrockage" is mislabeled.

Actual counterbrockages on zinc cents are rather rare. I've only seen half a dozen broadstrikes with counterbrockages and only two in-collar examples. The broadstruck counterbrockages are faint, incomplete, and run off the edge of the coin. The shallow nature of the brockage on the working face of the die cap, and the softness of the zinc, means that you'll get one counterbrockage at best out of a die cap.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I've been out of service for the last two days.
