Been looking through some online pictures and am stumped over this. Used this as a guide https://www.money.org/break-a-leg/Is this a 3 legged variety or altered? *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

NumismaticsFTW: can you please tell me what led to your decision on it?

Right - back leg is too detailed to be real amongst other red flags EDIT: Forgot the picture......

Looks fake to me. No noticeable die abrasion, no peeing Buffalo stream, no hind leg wear, lettering is too thick.
All in all, it just doesn't look "right".

I moved your thread to the proper section. My vote is fake. Is that coin in a slab? John1

Agree, appears altered. The rear leg is too robust, the shape of the beard is wrong, and EPU is too close to the buffalo.

Details and lettering look "fuzzy". And what's the metal debris on the reverse?

To me, the details look off.

Does not look "altered" to me. It looks like a die struck (or cast) counterfeit. Most likely of recent Far East origins. It is definitely not the real deal.

There are quite a few 'tell' for an authentic 3-legged 37-D buff, and for the life on me I cannot remember them exactly, except that the hind quarters is supposed to look rough like mold or something, and the beard has something going on with it. I'll have to take some time to find theses, unless someone here can list them up.

I admit I don't know much about these, and not sure if this helps, however... From CCF Search box: 1) http://goccf.com/t/473112) http://goccf.com/t/3790663) http://goccf.com/t/263122 and https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...-ccfopt.jpg)If Real these should apply: * The beard on the right side is longer than the beard on the left side. * The right rear leg is very weak and appears almost damaged. * There should be no file or polish marks in the area where the leg is missing. * The words "Pluribus and Unum" are separated from the back of the Buffalo "'P' and the 'U' in E Pluribus Unum is not touching the bison's back" * there has to be lines underneath the buffalo that make it seem like he's urinating
