I'm just starting to look into coins and came across this penny that clearly has had a reverse image struck on the obverse. How rare is this? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Looks like glue - 2 cents were stuck together.

I'm thinking glue or congealed liquid. Try giving the coin a loooong soak in 100% acetone--might remove or reduce that gunk.

Quote: Try giving the coin a loooong soak in 100% acetone- As long as you already have the acetone on hand and want to see if it comes off. Otherwise don't spend $10 on a can of acetone to clean up a cent with no premium.

To CCF! Sorry, but it's just glue. Worth face value, as it's not an error.

to the OP: to CCF this coin you presented appears to have a glue or other substance on it. when it was wet or mailable, another coin was pressed against it making an impression of it on your coin. To CoinFrog: You need to watch what you say and how it comes across to the others here. Belittling the coins that come across the forums here and the way you do it is very unnecessary, undesired, and unwanted. The new folks that are joining have little or next to nothing in experience that we have when examining a coin in hand. Not only does it take away from the experience of these new collectors, it can very well ruin it for them too.

to the CCF and We see a lot of glue around here. I'd guess it's in the top 3 questions here.

You had a good eye to spot the unusual coin. As others have said, it's likely just glue or another sticky substance. If the reverse design is actually pressed into the coin metal itself, then it is almost certainly a vise job.
