After the EQL flop, let the hunting begin.

When do folks typically expect to see a new circulating coin appear in the machines or in circulation? Do we expect to see the purple poppy immediately, within 1 week, within 2 weeks etc. What's the experience?

Here in the USofA (California) we have the Amer. Women quarter series of 5 different designs per year and I'm still missing 3 from 2023 and haven't seen any for 2024 along with the nickel or dime.

So best of luck to you down under, hope you find many purple poppies.

Depends on which state they are going to be released in. Good luck finding any if it's not the state you live in. Still haven't seen a 2020 firefighters $2 in SEQ.

Going to be interesting to see when/if they hit circulation. Might see them in Cotton and Co rolls from Imperial first?

The actual distribution of coins is interesting. I have found one of the 2020 $2 firefighters in far north Queensland so far, very few Vegemite coins but heaps of 2020 olympics and more 2024 olympics than the Vegemite coins which have been out longer. Maybe I depends on which ones people like to hoard? Anyway, hope everyone enjoys the thrill of the hunt and you find something exciting. Fingers crossed.

Anyone seen or heard of a purple poppy in circulation yet? I have purchased one from a dealer as I don't expect to see any in the wild. I'd be happy to be wrong on that one though. Hope they do surface in someone's change.

Nothing yet? I asked the tellers at the bank today and they haven't seen any yet. I strongly suspect that NONE were actually released for circulation and ALL coins were distributed in rolls or carded via dealers or the ballot.

I wonder if this will become the new way for the RAM to issue collectable coins? Create an interest in a new coin and then release to the dealers (who sell via different trading names on ebay) to sell at inflated prices. People go nuts thinking those coins are good investments and the craze continues. Even though the coin may never actually enter circulation it still gets to be considered as a circulating coin but instead becomes an instant collectors item and has an inflated value.

It looks concepts like the AFL coins through Woolworths aren't working (currently selling well below original price) so the RAM would need some sort of tactic to keep people interested in coins - especially if banks want us to go cashless.

Maybe I am overthinking it? If so, surely we should be seeing the purple poppy coins in circulation by now?

Got some at a coin fair recently. RAM had a booth that let you exchange coloured 2 dollar at face value. Oddly enough, they did have some older 2 dollar colored coins too!

That is interesting. I still think it is likely that NONE of the purple poppy coins actually made it into circulation through the banks. The local tellers here have not seen any yet (doesn't necessarily mean much though).

If the RAM are hoarding colored $2 circulating coins and releasing them through coin shows - how many have they kept? And from what years?

What were the older $2 coins the RAM had at that coin show? Was there a limit on how many you could swap?

Thanks Jens. No purple poppies in that lot but I would still have liked to swap the $ for those coins. I wonder if they will do the same at the next one in Brisbane? I would love to get down to one but it's a long drive from here. Will keep my fingers crossed.
