Zinc rot, maybe. Might have been in the dryer as well.

Not a Dryer Coin. Is there such a thing as a tilted die MAD? John1

Quote: Is there such a thing as a tilted die MAD? There is a vertical MAD. It doesn't look to me like that's what this is though. The strike looks pretty strong on both ends, and the obverse looks normal.

Anything unusual about the edge (third side) of the coin?

Nothing unusual about the edge - 3rd side of coin. May be slighly thinner at the main points of interest, the added two photos.

Thanks for the extra pics. Unusual vertical striations on the edge. Don't know if it was from a collar issue or possibly encased at some point. Unusual find though.

I have seen that edge before. I think Mike even covered it in the past. Not former Encased Coin. John1

Well, no consensus on this coin other than it is a MAD.
What shall I do with this coin. Really would like some good direction from the experts, i.e. send it to someone, get Mike Diamond to review the coin somehow, have it graded (It is in great condition overall), etc... Thanks for any advice you can provide!!!

I'm thinking these spots are very very small clips. Not enough to be seen, but just enough to mess with the upsetting rim. That would explain the weakness of the rim.

What is the weight?
It looks like there might not have been enough metal to fill the rim gutter.
