Half of "D" under the date is missing and on the reverse it looks like faint "FG"?

@fal, yes I agree with you. These are both explained by there having been a bit of grease in the die used to strike this coin.

Could be an over polished die issue on the reverse. The mint mark appears to have circulation flattening and maybe a hit.

Reverse shows a (near) 'floating' roof--a sign of die over polishing.

Over-polished dies are particularly common on cents of this year.

Combo of 3...circulation wear and tear..grease filled die.. over polished die. Notice the weak outline of Abes jacket nearest the mint mark....(Over polished die) Bottom of mm may have been the cause of all 3 stated above. Weak initials (FG) over-polished die.....JMHO

I believe a heavily polished die is the answer to most of the anomalies.

I think that this is a die over polishing issue here.
I, myself have a 1969 Lincoln Cent that has the last 9 in the date partially 'erased' from die polishing.
