I have to agree with Frog on this one.

I'm with frog on this one also. These would be deposited in a coin star. Not worth the time to search these to me.

Well, I'm not with Frog on his assessment - I think this is a great opportunity to help out a friend, and to possibly find some nice keepers in that huge hoard.
Good on you Brand for taking on this huge tedious task, good luck and hope to see something good at some point.

Life is about having fun and making the world a better place for the future. Both of these often require some work and the work itself is fun when moving towards an observable goal.

Coin collecting is a lot of fun but one way or the other you have to collect the coins to be a coin collector at all.

Somebody invented the wheel and somebody else built the roller coaster. Everything comes and goes but coins are handed down through time only after a coin collector saves them.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I'd have fun searching this lot of coins. Maybe you'll find an '83 copper transitional, '69 DDO, '72 DDO? Keep us updated BM, good luck!

I would search them all! I have been going thru my Grandfather's/Father's coin collections for like 2 years now.
I originally thought it was @10,000 coins but it has been well over 20,000 now. I have only gone thru 50's, 60's & 70's one cents.
Many, many are in pristine Unc. condition, as if originally pulled from banks/circulation first hand. I'm not very fast at searching coins.
But, I do have the opportunity to do the same thing you're doing Brand. I will likely do it for a friend that lost her husband.

Maybe I will also take a pass through the Wexler catalog "Best of" entries for DDO / DDR and RPM.

After considering my search strategy, I think I will use egg cartons for a quick sort, and then put year/mm directly into rolls. Figure I will use that many rolls anyway when I do final wrap on the discarded cents. I can do variety search and nice coin searches directly from uniform rolls of year/mm.

Looks like all the majors there. After a while you'll have the interesting years memorized. Many years are not worth a second look IMO so they are easy to trash quickly.

Don't worry about the various DDO / DDR details too much. Learn to identify true hub doubling and you don't have to memorize everything other than the years worth looking at closer.

The 72 DDO are easy to find by looking at the just IGWT first. You can figure out which DDO from the list later. They are extremely hard to find. I reckon I've searched 100+k 1972's in my life and have only found 1.
