The Sierra Club - founded by John Muir (with others) in 1892 - promoted several numismatic collectible products for the California Statehood Quarter at the time of its release in 2005, one was the Eyewitness to History philatelic-numismatic cover (PNC) by Fleetwood that is presented here. It's a commercial product vs. the Yosemite Park Set I recently presented (2005 California Statehood Quarter - Yosemite Set, but it is an attractive, quality product that celebrates California via numismatics. (So, when I came across one at a very reasonable price...I made the purchase.)

The PNC includes two Uncirculated California Quarters - one struck at the Philadelphia Mint, one at the Denver Branch Mint - four California-related US postage stamps and a post mark/cancellation on the day of the Quarter's general release by the Mint. (Side Note: The Quarters in my PNC are VERY nice quality - good strikes and essentially free of surface marks.)

You can read more about the included stamps via the PNC image presented below.

For its background on each side, the PNC uses a photograph of a conifer tree forest - predominantly Ponderosa pines - within Yosemite National Park. Per the PNC, the photograph was taken by W. Cody / licensed by CORBIS (now part of Getty Images).

I don't have a particular connection to California, but commend the State organizations that rallied around their Statehood Quarter - and their promotion of it - via nicely-produced numismatic collectibles.

Agree... I enjoy the different styles/eras of stamps they chose, and one wonders where they found a stockpile of 1-cent stamps from 1934.

Fair question. These are likely more common than one would assume.

During occasional visits to a local antique market (lots of little stalls filled with a huge variety of things for sale) I pass a stall that contains hundreds if not thousands of full sheets of unused old US postage stamps. I recall they are very reasonably priced.

I guess I can see that. I used to collect stamps (both circ and uncirc) in the 80s as a kid, even getting into the annual USPS-issued folders and such...which were pretty darn cool, to be honest. When I'm long gone I bet there will be "sell me your collections" people that will gather up my stuff (and others like me) and distill it into a profit if my progeny doesn't have the smarts to do something with them.

These days I even have a modest collection of current sheets of Forever stamps. Nothing huge and just the sheets that catch my eye when I'm at the PO mailing my annual CCF Secret Santa gift. But since you will always be able to mail a first class envelope with Forever Stamps it seems they will at least keep abreast of inflation.. could be a very long hedge, particularly seeing the drastic decline in Christmas cards we received this year.

To return this to the OP's topic.... I just checked on ebay and I don't see one of these for sale. Probably using the wrong terms, but I'll keep looking.

@ Celtic, You stated :
" I enjoy the different styles/eras of stamps they chose, and one wonders where they found a stockpile of 1-cent stamps from 1934. "

Wall mounted U S stamp machines use to hang in " other " than post offices....

The 1980's and 1990's I would find in convenient stores , Ole U S Stamp machines . Stamps from the 1920's through the 1960's....0.25 cents apiece!!!!
They would come out in a Sanitary cardboard flip, Early Old American stamps....

After every visit there I accumulated Hundreds of these stamps, ALL in Originally packaged cardboard flips.....
I was shocked that More people were Not interested, After showing a fellow employee, He would empty the machines before I did, I eventually bought the machines.....

I too collect Modern Stamp sheets, The music topic has some Awesome stamps, Postal Vehicles from days gone bye Too.....The U S Postal service came out with a Magnet series, The series has colorful magnetic stamp sized magnets of All the stamps in the series, I stopped collecting a couple years ago, Hendrix, Lennon, Military themes..

Very cool to see....

Thanks Commems, Another Awesome topic....
