I often think of the buying power the coins would have. When I hand out IHCs at work I tell the kids "back in the day a cowboy could have spent this to feed his horse"
I am not an equestrian expert but I don't think horses eat pennies

1803 is a long time ago!! Your coin has quite a bit of detail from what is usually encountered. Good find! Back in the early 1800s, there were very few serious coin collectors. Collecting in the US significantly increased when the large and
Half Cent phased out in 1857. When the US mint recalled all the large cents for melting into new designs, they invited a small handful of collectors to pick from the melting piles what coins to keep. Couldn't imagine how many 93 cents and 94 cents were in there!!
