After buying groceries last night I visited the store's Coinstar machine, as is my wont. I didn't see anything in the reject tray immediately, but then saw a couple of small coins along the edge. I fished them out, saw a cent and a dime, and put 'em in my pocket. Didn't think much about them until I got home and took a closer look.

A beautiful 84-year-old Wheatie and a nice helping of 90% silver! Abe and FDR never looked so good.

Nice score! I haven't checked out a vending machine reject/return tray since I was a kid. That will change now.

Nice! You never know what all goes in to the counter and doesn't get rejected!

I just wonder if CoinStar ends up fishing thru everything or do they just roll it all up and send it to the bank?

A word of warning...never do that while people are using the machine......

Not a bad return for the effort...

The reverse does indeed look like a woodie, the obverse not so much.

My understanding of coinstar is that they hire private individuals to sort
and process their bulk coins from various locations.
One local dealer I know well keeps his 4-for-a-dollar foreign tub constantly
full with coinstar rejects. It's a great source for moderns in high grade;
especially the cool bi-metallics that are seldom seen.

Little over 20 years ago I found a 1917 Mercury dime jammed into a coin star machine.
