I found this ebay coin today and was wondering if the seller is pricing the coin correctly. I am only asking because I have the same coin that I found in a roll of pennies years ago. https://www.ebay.com/itm/226572310802This is what the seller had in his description: 1942 Lincoln Cent struck on Brass Planchet: An amazing error, the planchet is obviously made of brass with a distinctive appearance quite unlike a normal copper cent! the color is bright has a golden look to it, with a few scattered specks to note the passage of time. the coin is basically as struck. It is probable that this error was created in a similar fashion to the 1943 copper cents, perhaps a bin of Ecuador dimes had just been struck at the Philadelphia Mint, then a tub of copper planchets were dumped in the bin for coining Lincoln Cents. Apparently planchets remained in the bin from the Ecuador dimes, and were struck with Lincoln Cent dies. Records show that two 1942 cents are known struck on brass planchets, and this is one of those two (See Judd under Mint Errors). With modern rarities routinely commanding five-figure prices at auction, this early 20th-century error with a proven population of just two coins should prove to be a bargain. Further, it fits hand in glove with the 1943 copper cent error, and 1944 zinc cent errors. Employees at the Philadelphia Mint were no doubt distracted by the World War. The foremost opportunity for the specialist to purchase a truly rare error coin. this particular coin was certified at one time by a Grading Service an, and the Coin is 1400 under of price paid *** Edited by Staff - Added Link Above ***

I agree...in the slab it has more value I would think. The NGC grading is good for 10 years, so no need to take it out for regrading.

Major red flag, it makes no logical sense to remove it from the NGC slab. Did the seller attempt to "rationalize" why the coin was removed?

Quote: Very curious. Why did the seller crack it out of the slab? I agree,That's the RED FLAG right there. The authentication proof is not there anymore, a piece of NGC paper with bar code means nothing..

there is no telling if the cent showing is the one that was in the slab at this point.

Reported for raw coin over $2500.00. If it is not in the holder, it is considered raw.

Quote: Reported for raw coin over $2500.00. The AI bot should be responding to your report shortly. Since the seller has included NGC and a certification number in the description, the bot is not likely to find a problem.

Without being in the slab to verify it it's just a "toned" cent untill proven otherwise.

I agree with all the above.
The alloy composition will ultimately be the determining factor for any of these to be attributed. Jimbo, did you have an XRF scan done to your coin yet? Many pawn shops have them and may scan it for you.
