Im up for debate on the flat bottom of the 8 in the date of 1989. There is no trauma on the 8 or below it, its very raggy jagged and looks like it broke off. I don't think its PMD.

I vote damage. There is a visible mark between the 8 and C; also, both the second 9 and T have hits on them.

Interesting find. I have to agree with PMD, but I want to be wrong.

It looks like it could be a chip/break off the master that made the die. They are like typewriter keys kinda.

If you compare the two 8s the flat bottom one is flater and thicker font. roller pinned like bread dough. I'm totally not sure on this one but swinging PMD,

Yep if it's flattened then it was probably hit by something.

Going to attribute it as a flat bottom 8 and see if another shows up by roll searchers.

I added 2 more pictures and note the one with a flat bottom 8 and the second picture with ejection doubling.

My (Chadcoins) Hypothesis on what happened. I have a few coins with ejection breaks were the piece broke off. Look at the 9 how the edge is cracked and with the deformed base of the 8 it gave the die more friction and tighter on ejection. To break that bottom off the 8 there will be no scuff marks. I do have coins with the broken piece just hanging on.. To me its a ejection break with raggy jagged edge.

That's interesting and the first time I heard about an ejection break but you said the 8 was pancaked an ejection break wouldn't squish it right. Also there's no ejection doubling anywhere. I admit it's weird that there's no marks where the missing piece of the 8 is but that ding on the 9 is evidence that something hit your coin at some point.
