Hi All, I will start with an apology about the picture!! I am new to this and just today ordered a coin microscope so I can supply better pictures. I'm also on the road and going through a bunch of pics I took on my phone for me to go through while traveling so I can't go back and retake picture of this coin (or get a pic of the obverse as I know you would like to see that). With that being said, is anyone able to tell me what is going on with the upper portion of this coin? I'm not sure if it was damage or an error with the coin. I'm learning with every new find and any insight would be great. Thanks!!

Looks to me like an area of concentrated corrosion. There is a bit of surface staining near of OF too, which may be related.

A closer-in photo with a bit better lighting would help. Unfortunately, that appears to be impossible at the moment.

Could be corrosion. Need a better lighted picture to tell for sure.

for the moment, corrosion seems to be the best explanation at the moment - as least until we get better images.

If that is corrosion then it hasn't "eaten" through to the copper yet.
