So I started going through some of the binders with the plastic sleeves filled with various coins in the collection I recently inherited from my late grandfather and I came across this 1864 Two Cent Piece today and was curious if I could get some input on grade? I can say it is BN. Much Appreciated As Always! Edited by TeeEss86 02/07/2025 9:38 pm

I'll guess AU. Although this coin is not in my area of expertise, so I could be wrong.

That's a tough coin. I'm no expert in this series, but I say MS63BN. Might be RB, but from the pics I see BN.

That is very nice coin, and more importantly it is the "small motto" variety. I'd say mid to high AU, but also not my area.
Taking a closer look on a bigger screen, I'd say AU58+

Being the "Small Motto" I'd say yes - very pricy in higher grades.

Send this one out for grading.

Known for weak strikes this coin has a wonderful reverse, I'm left wondering what's going on @ 9k on the obverse...if the grader feels this is circulated then AU-58, if MS I'm in at 64 (depending on that 9k area)....should be graded Lovely coin your grand father left you

First impression was MS-63 RB, but I'm wondering about IT in UNITED. Looks like possible damage. Hopefully a filled die or other as-struck feature. How does this area appear in-hand, with magnification?

Thanks Jaobler when in hand and under magnification, they just seem a little more worn, but not to the degree the picture shows, they look more like the S in STATES.
